Elementary, My Dear Dog

With this new painting, I mischievously revisit the television memories of my childhood. I wanted to capture that precise moment when, feigning distraction, the genius is about to expose his suspect. This very tight vertical composition emphasizes the immediate connection between Columbo, his faithful basset hound, and the viewer. I’ve incorporated the signature typography that’s a hallmark of each of my paintings. It deliberately plays with comic book conventions to instantly tickle our collective memory. My painting technique here highlights the handling of the medium, particularly evident in the textured effects I enjoy applying with a palette knife. The color palette contrasts the freshness of the background with the saturated solid colors of the character to create a modern graphic presence. My deliberately bold outline lines infuse the scene with a vibrant tension. Looking for a comforting visual refuge for your walls that evokes a not-so-distant past?
