Classy Duck

Watch out—pop culture’s most famous duck is getting a makeover and a healthy dose of visual energy! My beloved Donald embodies and, in a way, defines my artistic approach, which revolves around energetic figurative art, straddling the line between Neo-Pop and urban art. This is one of my earliest works. Through this playful depiction, I seek to recapture the joy I felt during my earliest encounters with this lovable duck. A visual dialogue emerges between the power of the graphic line—accentuated by the character imparted by the dry pastel strokes—and the materiality of the paint. The text evokes the famous bird’s favorite catchphrase, and he certainly seems to be having a good time. With this decidedly retro look, I chose to evoke the aesthetic of early cartoons or 1930s vaudeville (its first appearance on June 9, 1934). My paintings convey a pictorial energy that is at once playful, spontaneous, and decidedly contemporary. Pleasure above all else!
