Vodniciar Alina Artwork «Family Portrait» — 50x65cm colored pencils on drawing paper 2025

In the autumn of 2025, someone contacted me to commission a Family Portrait for their friends in Alberta. They showed me a photograph of the couple in a forest landscape. I drew this Family Portrait using coloured pencils on high-quality paper, paying particular attention to the facial expressions, the likeness of the people portrayed, and the harmony between the colours of their clothing and the natural atmosphere of the background. I captured the individual personalities of these people while also paying particular attention to the structure and texture of the fabrics of their clothing, as the woman was wearing a red outdoor jacket, while the man depicted in the Portrait was wearing a grey outdoor jacket, this combination of red and grey creates a beautiful harmony. I drew the couple’s faces with particular care, using subtle variations in tones and colours to convey volume, expression, and the individual characteristics of each person. Through the closeness of the two figures and the naturalness of their pose, I sought to convey the emotional bond between them and preserve the intimate, personal atmosphere that makes a Family Portrait so meaningful. I created this Drawing using coloured pencils on high-quality paper, exploring the possibilities offered by this technique to achieve depth, transparency, and a rich range of shades. Every detail was important to me, from the facial expressions to the texture of the clothing, as these small elements contribute to the authenticity and visual impact of this Artwork. At the end of the working process, I placed the sheet bearing the completed Portrait on a white DeSerres plastic board, after which the Drawing was collected to be mailed to Alberta.
