Vodniciar Alina Artwork Drawing «Family Portrait with Pet» — 56x76cm watercolor and colored pencils on drawing paper 2024 (2024)

This hand-drawn realistic Portrait features a couple seated outdoors alongside their dog. Delicate lines and soft colors highlight the natural, relaxed expressions of the subjects. The background depicts a river landscape with autumnal trees, creating a serene mood. The artist employed colored pencils to capture detailed facial features, clothing textures, and the dog's fur with fine precision and subtle shading. In this Drawing «Family Portrait with Pet», I drew a Family Portrait that includes another member of the Family — their Pet — combining human Portraiture with animal Portraiture while preserving the naturalness of gestures, gazes, and individual expressions. I rendered the Pet Portrait as an integral member of the Family, sharing the same importance within the composition as the human Portraits. I combined watercolor and colored pencil techniques. I began with the background landscape in watercolor, then moved on to colored pencils for the Portraits in the foreground, gradually building up the entire Drawing through fine layers of hatching and overlapping colors. I drew the figures in the foreground with meticulous attention to detail, in contrast with the expressive freedom of the autumn landscape, thus creating depth and visual balance. I aimed to preserve the distinctive facial features and individuality of each person, giving the Artwork authenticity and a personal character. I sought to create harmony between the precision of the Portrait details and the luminous atmosphere of the landscape, allowing each element to contribute to the unity of the composition. By combining watercolor and colored pencils, I transformed the reference photograph into a custom, hand-drawn Artwork, preserving both the likenesses of the subjects and the naturalness and warmth of the captured moment. This Drawing was commissioned by a returning client who wanted a Family Portrait together with their Pet. The Artwork was created on a sheet of heavy drawing paper and, upon completion, was mounted on a white plastic board. The client had already prepared a frame to fit the dimensions provided to them.
