2010
Dimensions : 48 x 38cm | 19 x 15 in
In this work, I was inspired by the beautiful combination of the red coloring on the Goldfinch and the red, orange, and brick-colored berries, creating a harmony between warm and cool tones. I painted this work in 2010 in watercolor on canvas, using canvases that our friend from Italy, Sig. Antonio Battistella used to send me for painting. I found the technique of watercolor on canvas particularly interesting because it preserves the freshness of watercolor while allowing more time to work, without the pressure of the rapid drying time associated with watercolor on paper. These little birds are often seen in Moldova during the winter, and their vivid red coloring against the white background of the snow creates an extraordinarily beautiful contrast. The Artwork is painted on an unstretched canvas, without a wooden stretcher frame, and is attached to a white plastic support.
