This work depicts a first encounter or the beginning of a relationship between two people willing to do anything to be loved. The two figures are not yet an established couple, but they are awkwardly drawing closer, trying to present the best version of themselves, despite features that already betray their flaws—such as the long nose or the need for control. Their frozen, exaggerated smiles reflect the immense effort they’re making to please one another and mask their emerging incompatibility. They attempt to make contact out of fear of loneliness, gradually transforming this initial rapprochement into a game of masks in which each seeks to become attached to the other.
