This work depicts the heartbreak and pain that can linger when a relationship ends, yet the two people experience the separation differently. The two figures, positioned at a distance from one another—one weeping, the other with a frozen smile—embody this contrast, in which one person’s suffering seems to clash with the other’s indifference or detachment. Between one person who continues to mourn the relationship and another who seems to have already moved on, the work reveals the tension of a breakup experienced as a loss by one, but as a mere ending by the other.
