Mistake

This work depicts misunderstanding and the projections imposed on identity through the figure of a mermaid seated on a rock, whose face—a blend of flesh and bone—betrays a profound inner weariness. The cool blue of the composition, the violet shapes streaking across the sky, the spiraling sun, and the curled-up red tail graphically embody anticipation, isolation, and the tension between the image projected onto the individual and what they truly embody. By contrasting the figure traditionally associated with seduction with a body marked by fatigue and immobility, the work captures the paradox of an identity trapped within the gaze of others, to the point of losing its own reality.
