The Man

This work depicts the expectations associated with masculine identity and the burden of the norms imposed on men, through a figure who appears to be supporting the frame of the piece—a symbol of the constant responsibility to maintain an image of strength. The shades of blue and orange, the gaze that shifts between emptiness and distress, the scars, the defined muscles, the body hair, and the signs of aging visually embody the tension between apparent power, inner vulnerability, and physical strain. By contrasting the body’s solidity with the fragility of the gaze, the work captures the conflict between the image expected of a man and the emotions he must suppress to live up to it.
