Fidelity

Fidelity is a sculptural painting created from recycled materials. The work begins with an old reused canvas and a duck-shaped stuffed toy, sewn directly into the pictorial surface. Covered in gesso, enriched with plaster textures, and then painted in acrylic, the object becomes a hybrid presence between painting and sculpture. The duck, in tones of verdigris green, evokes a surface slowly oxidized by time, like a sculpture left to the elements. It appears as a remnant of the living world, a silent trace of nature transformed into memory. Alone within its space, it embodies a sense of solitude in the face of ecological imbalance and the contemporary climate crisis. The title, Fidelity, echoes the idea of the “faithful duck,” while carrying an underlying irony. The contrasting orange background suggests both a sunset over an idealized earthly paradise and a more ambiguous tension. It also recalls the culinary image of duck à l’orange, introducing a critical layer: that of an animal both celebrated, consumed, and transformed into memory. Between homage and disappearance, the work questions our relationship to the living world, to memory, and to the transformation of nature into object. What remains is a frozen form—an emotional relic, a souvenir of something once loved, observed, and slowly absorbed by time.
