Still life with a Monster

This small still life, created in 2025, follows in the great tradition of 17th-century Dutch painting. However, a visual anachronism immediately catches the eye: the presence of a can of Monster. More subtly, one might think that the red and white spheres at the center of the composition are simply candies; think again—they are actually pills. Through this work, I aim to illustrate our era and its excesses, which can sometimes cost us our lives. By replacing the skull and traditional attributes with a can and pills, this contemporary vanitas brings the classical genre into the present.
