Fruit

This pomegranate is the result of several weeks of work. It is entirely three-dimensional; the flesh is made of glass beads, and the exterior is finely embroidered. The piece measures 17 cm by 12 cm and is set in a dark green wooden frame. It is, without a doubt, one of my finest pieces. I chose the pomegranate as my subject because I associate it with the darker, more enchanting side of religious and occult imagery. Omnipresent in the work of Ms. Smith, who illustrated the Rider-Waite Tarot, in still-life paintings, and used as an ornament to enhance Middle Eastern dishes, this fruit has undeniable aesthetic qualities to which I wanted to pay homage with my needle.
