Congolese Culture and History

In the foreground of the painting is a quadrilateral facing the viewers. The background is dominated by the color orange. Leopard’s head is depicted looking toward the center (top), the left (bottom), and the right. Notice the blue sky and the broken circle. You can see the yellow and red corner on the left and the yellow and green corner on the right. There are two vertical yellow and red lines on the left and two other vertical blue and green lines on the right. Two blue and white diagonal lines are visible in the upper right corner, and two other diagonal lines are visible in the upper left corner. A purple line is visible in the lower left corner, and a pink line in the lower right corner. The crosses are speckled with red, and there are two gray lines in the center. The artwork showcases the Congo’s cultural richness. The use of acrylic paint has helped evoke a sense of belonging through the painted symbols. One of the distinctive features of the quadrilateral is its interpretation, which is particularly revealing. This is an abstract artwork; I used glue, nails, acrylic paint, gesso, pencil, and eraser to explore the theme of “integration,” influenced by Cubism, which expresses my cultural identity and the factors that shape my culture. I also drew on the Indigenous perspective on cultural identity, which serves as a key driver of artistic creativity. My intention is to raise viewers’ awareness of cultural values and their impact on integration, to help build connections with others across cultures, and to express a shared identity. Creating this painting makes me accountable for my ideas and initiatives. I am presenting an original and unique work of art.
