“contemplation”

This Work emerged in a quiet interval of looking inward-when the noise of the present thins and older shapes begin to surface. It belongs to the ongoing GJH block prophet series that treats memory as something fractured yet Living.: not a clean recollection, but a field of overlapping residues, half-recognized forms, and ancestral pressures that refuse to stay buried. The biomorphic, silhouette and torn edges are drawn from the same visual language that run through the rest of My practice - African mask geometry dissolved into postwar abstraction, body landscapes that feel both intimate and collective, the tension between confinement and release. Yellow fields push against cooler voids ; white negative space becomes as active as the painted matter. Nothing is fully resolved. Contemplation, here, is not peaceful stillness, but the charge pause in which history, personal and inherited, keeps rearranging itself. The painting does not illustrate a simple story. It holds the residue of many: the long afterlife of displacement, the stubborn persistence of form after ruptured, and the private act of sitting with what cannot be fully named.
