The Poet (2025)

This abstract painting is a deeply personal piece to me. I paint to music because it always inspires me. I put on the music and I let the music and emotions guide me as I paint. I was listening to my beloved Canadian band-The Tragically Hip as I was creating and I decided to keep this theme going as I painted. Gord had an electric persona on stage and he really didn't leave the world the way he found it. I thought that saying was fitting and I wanted to include it in the painting. He was a poet, an incredible story teller and he loved his country. I wrote down my playlist on the back of the painting as a special diary to what I listed to as the painting came to life. This is my tribute to Gord and his bandmates. Their songs were a huge part of the soundtrack of my early adult life and those songs and the feelings I had will always stay with me.
