Start To Be Great (2024)

This painting captures the strength and spirit of a horse through its intense gaze and flowing mane. The deep blues, blacks, greens, and earthy tones create a sense of movement and emotion, while the abstract background gives the piece a more expressive and almost dreamlike feeling. The painting is paired with Zig Ziglar’s quote, “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.” For me, these words connect strongly with what the horse represents—courage, determination, freedom, and the willingness to keep moving forward. The message behind the painting is simple: you don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin. Growth starts with taking that first step, no matter how small or uncertain it may feel. The horse represents that inner strength to move forward and trust the journey. Ultimately, this piece is a reminder that becoming great doesn’t happen before we start—it happens because we chose to start.
