Peace & Lies

Here, I have very modestly tackled the irreverence of street art and the visual impact of Pop Art. This clash captures the very essence of the provocative attitude of the 1990s through a centered and striking composition, which was widely used at the time. My character Bart, spray can in hand, brazenly denies his misdeed with his iconic retort. The text here takes the form of a classic comic-book speech bubble, while fresh paint is still dripping behind him onto that harmless “Peace and Love” sign. Technically, the painting stands out due to the work I did to simulate a real white brick wall in the background, which gives the painting an almost urban and tactile depth. This blue tag adds spontaneity to the scene and complements my dry pastel outline of the character in the foreground. The color palette I used features bold, saturated primary colors that stay true to the original series while maximizing the graphic impact.
