Fortissimo!

With this other painting, I’m once again exploring the Pop Art themes that define my work. This piece pays direct homage to Chuck Jones’s animated masterpiece. The composition captures the musical duel, in which Bugs Bunny, disguised as a conductor, pushes opera singer Giovanni Jones to his vocal limits. The monumental, textured integration of onomatopoeia in the background—punctuated by suspended musical notes—transforms sound into a pure visual force, which continues to delight me as I paint. My technique is characterized by a richness of color and texture, particularly in the treatment of the green-yellow background applied with my favorite tool, the palette knife. The characters are always outlined with bold, grainy black contours drawn in dry pastel. This, it must be said, brings dramatic tension and raw energy to the scene. My palette contrasts the understated elegance of our famous rabbit’s tuxedo with the saturated bursts of color in the tenor’s ruddy face and the opera-red letters, creating a guaranteed and playful visual impact.
