For my Batman, I’m once again playing with the conventions of Pop Art and comic books, paying direct homage to the kitsch aesthetic of the 1960s TV series. My composition is built around a diagonal dynamic accentuated by the movement I’ve given to the cape and the graphic incorporation of explosive onomatopoeia from the show’s opening credits. The beam of the Bat-signal on the ground places my superhero at the heart of a theatrical and dramatic scene. Technically, I played with strong contrasts and textures, visible in the application of paint in the background, which gives the bright yellow background a vibrant and almost raw appearance. The characters’ outlines, rendered in dry pastel, break up the flat areas of color to add depth and texture to the vigilante’s silhouette. The use of a saturated color palette, combining deep blues and electric yellows, maximizes the piece’s visual impact.
