“ Divide “

My work unfolds as a fractured, landscapes of Memory and Emergence. A pale, almost spectral profile rises from the left horizon, mouth open in a cry or a grin that refuses to settle while dark, calligraphic lines, crack and coil across a washed chartreuse field. A central form, marked by Horizon striations, hangs suspended between the figures and artifact. The whole surface feels both ancient and freshly broken, as if the ground itself is remembering this piece was made in a period of looking backwards and forward at once: reconstructing Family lines that runs through North Carolina, Florida, and the Longshadow of the Atlantic, while still working from the lived present of a black American artist living in California. The does not illustrate a single story. Instead, it lets the marks behave the way Memory does partial, distorted, insistent.
