Why we aim to be the world’s best street art gallery

Street art was born in the street, for everyone. Too many galleries made it inaccessible. We do the opposite: four concrete, verifiable commitments that guide every decision we make.

Authenticity

Only original works by living artists, signed and certified. No mass-produced prints.

Accessibility

Free admission, studios open to the public and direct-from-artist buying, with no speculation.

Recognition

5-star TripAdvisor, Travelers’ Choice 2026, #3 of 798 things to do in Montréal and ongoing press coverage.

Mission

An eco-conscious non-profit: supporting artists and giving meaning back to the encounter with art.

Where the market treats art as a speculative product, we treat it as an encounter. L’Original runs as an artists’ cooperative and connects buyer and creator directly, often by video, so every work carries a story you actually know. That standard, more than its size, is what makes a gallery great.

Authenticity first

L’Original sells only original works by living street artists, never mass-produced prints. Every piece is signed and comes with a certificate of authenticity. We represent real Montréal artists, including MONK.E, Astro, Labrona, Lyndon Polan, MakeNoize and Kevin Ledo.

Our model is eco-conscious and social (a non-profit): supporting living artists and restoring meaning to how people and art meet.

Unbeatable value

Buying directly from the artists, without auction-house speculation, means accessible original art: many works cost about the price of a nice piece of furniture. Admission is free at both galleries, and our team advises you with no pressure.

The founder’s story

An entrepreneur from the age of 12 in a small village in Isère, Dorian Verdier resold flea-market finds online, then moved to Montréal at 18 to study at HEC Montréal. Struck by the richness of the city’s mural scene, he founded L’Original in 2018: a gallery that supports living street artists, runs as an artists’ cooperative and gives objects a second life.

More than 200 students have taken part in the project. For every commission, L’Original sets up video meetings between client and artist, so the relationship is built before the artwork. This work earned the 2026 award from the French Chamber of Commerce in Canada.

"When someone comes in with their work, it isn't a product. It's a piece of their soul."
Dorian Verdier, Le Petit Journal
"We want to give meaning back to the relationship between people and art."
