Artwork that creates measurable impact

Art should do more than decorate a wall. Born from a master's thesis in social innovation on the democratization of art, the PickArt app turns real estate, corporate and institutional projects into living human experiences.

Research and local impact

When art becomes an impact metric

We do not place artwork to make a space look better. We build art integrations that generate real outcomes: income for artists, better workplaces, and a documented contribution to your ESG goals.

Our approach follows the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. That expertise is institutionally recognized through our founder Dorian Verdier's work as a speaker for the UN Agenda 2030 Observatory (CEIM, UQAM).

Every project creates value on three levels: for the artist who exhibits, for the space that hosts the work, and for the impact reports that document the outcomes.

Grounded in research

The academic research behind PickArt

The model grew out of a master's thesis by our founder, Dorian Verdier (M.Sc., HEC Montréal, 2024), on the democratization of art among citizens in the digital age, carried out in the lab with UdeM and Tech3Lab.

Three dimensions · one approach

What a project with L'Original can generate

Every project we deliver creates outcomes for artists, spaces and communities.

01Artists

Give artists more visibility.

We champion local and emerging artists, including those from communities underrepresented in traditional circuits. Hand-picked, our creators see their work shown in real, lived-in places. That support carries them well past our borders: to date, their canvases have shipped to more than 30 countries.

02Spaces

Bring local culture into everyday life.

Offices, hotels, lobbies and common areas become points of contact with local culture. Whether through acquiring canvases or commissioning custom murals, the work turns spaces into living experiences and gives your buildings a soul.

03Communities

Strengthen the local cultural fabric.

Every art integration circulates value through the community. We break down elitist barriers so art becomes an engine of social cohesion and real encounters.

Beyond the visual

What we actually do on the ground

L'Original is not an art catalogue. It is a social innovation ecosystem active in the heart of Montréal.

A muralist paints the “Fierté” mural on an outdoor wall in Montréal-Nord, working from a ladder
“Fierté”, painted in Montréal-Nord with MakeNoize. The title speaks both to the neighbourhood's LGBTQIA2S+ community and to Black representation in a district shaped by Haitian immigration.

    PickArt, the “Tinder of art”

An app that lets you book a meeting directly with the artist, online or in person, to talk and co-create a custom piece. People are back at the centre.

  2. 02

Two venues open 7 days a week

Living spaces offering free cultural mediation and artist studios open to the public, no appointment and no ticket.

  3. 03

    Community and youth projects

Two large-scale murals painted in Montréal-Nord with the MakeNoize organization, including “Fierté”, a title that speaks both to the neighbourhood's LGBTQIA2S+ community and to Black representation in a district shaped by Haitian immigration. Alcohol-free events for young people round it out.

  4. 04

    Cultural heritage

We published the book of the 50 most essential muralists in Montréal, to document an urban heritage that disappears fast.

  5. 05

    Corporate workshops

Creative workshops that support mental health and build a sense of belonging inside teams.

Beyond the canvases, we help build a cultural position that is concrete, visible and documented across your spaces.

SDG 10

Reduced inequalities

Spotlighting artists from diverse backgrounds and running projects in Montréal-Nord, including the “Fierté” mural, which gives visible space to the neighbourhood's LGBTQIA2S+ community and its Black residents.

BOMA BEST A3.3

Sense of Place

Local identity through murals and custom work reflecting the neighbourhood's history, plus community activations that connect tenants and creators directly.

The questions we get asked

Four questions, four positions

  • Traditional galleries often take a 50% commission. On PickArt, our share drops to 35% for online sales
  • A price floor of $1 per square inch protects the value of the creative work itself
  • The model comes straight out of academic research on social innovation aimed at keeping local creators economically viable
  • Buying art is not only an aesthetic transaction, it is an ESG lever covering environment, social and governance
  • It creates measurable local outcomes: direct support to emerging artists and funding for inclusion projects such as our Montréal-Nord murals with MakeNoize
  • It builds workplaces that support mental health, which maps to UN SDG 3, and it feeds certifications such as BOMA BEST criterion A3.3 Sense of Place
  • This is a central question in our work with the UN Agenda 2030 Observatory at UQAM
  • The PickArt algorithm is never used to generate artificial art or to isolate the buyer. It is a social innovation tool built to spark a human encounter
  • Our app, often called the “Tinder of art”, connects buyer and artist so they meet, in person or online, and co-create. AI handles the matching; humans keep the monopoly on creation and meaning
  • Real democratization runs through education and access, not through devaluing an artist's work
  • We hold a strict accessibility policy: free cultural mediation 7 days a week in both Montréal galleries, plus workshops open to the public
  • We train the public eye, publish reference works such as the book of the 50 muralists of Montréal, and run inclusive events including alcohol-free evenings for young people
  • Explaining the artistic approach is what justifies the ethical value of the piece

« PickArt's technology was never built to automate art. It was built to spark a human encounter. Whether it is a canvas shipped overseas or a monumental mural in a head office, the goal is the same: create meaning and support our creators directly. »
