Resonance

Diptych. “Resonance” from the series Echoes of Violence. The white ripples represent the effect of abuse on generations and the interconnectedness of women through time. They can also represent the aftershock. They are split in two, suggesting a rupture in healing or relationships divided by trauma or violence or silence. Yet still present and still form an aligned circle like the impact continues. A unified consciousness of women no longer tolerating abuse. The gold chain around it is broken and not ties to represent the breaking of cycles for future generations. Also, the interwoven chain is like it like women interwoven together, standing together to protect future generations. The random black squares represent abuses done to us that are no longer overpowering and taking over our lives. The stand in the distance, separated and no longer powerful. It’s a balance between fragmentation and continuity. The gold chains can also be the systems that keep women solidarity. Like inherited patterns or emotional lineage. Emotional experience keeps echoing through relationships, generations and separations. Hence the title : Resonance
