Memories of you souls

This work serves as a memorial to the lives lost in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, where violence and suffering have persisted for decades. A hand holds a white flower, gradually stained red by spilled blood. The flower becomes a symbol of lives that were once untouched by violence and of the innocence that is lost when human lives are caught up in conflict. The three colors evoke the Congolese flag, while the black background carries the weight of mourning, grief, and the silence surrounding those left behind. The narrow red line indicates the distance between witnessing suffering and responding to it—the feeling of watching the bloodshed continue while the world looks on. Here, death is not merely presented as an end. It becomes a place of rest for those whose lives have been marked by suffering, while the flower remains as a gesture of remembrance: a reminder that a life may vanish, but must not vanish from our collective memory.
