Two aged hands face each other, painted with an almost sculptural texture: the weathered skin, the pronounced knuckles, and the deep shadows between the fingers give this fragment of a body an intense, almost tactile, physical presence. Surrounding them, white embroidery unfurls a network of intertwined loops and spirals, like an organic weave springing from the very space between the two hands, that space where they do not quite touch, where the gesture remains suspended. The thread, here almost graphic in its repetition of curves, gives form to what cannot be seen: the invisible bond that unites despite the distance, the thread of kinship that continues to flow even when the hands do not fully meet. Les Liens thus makes this interstice the heart of the work; the embroidery fills, weaves, and makes visible what painting alone could not show: the deep, familial, and emotional bond that persists beyond physical contact.
