Created using acrylics, gouache, hand-painted paper, and natural and handcrafted stamps, this contemporary collage explores the connections between wildlife, forest habitats, and human expansion. Inspired by the aesthetic of naïve art, the work depicts a caribou surrounded by houses built with wood from the forest that was once its territory. Inspired by the decline of the woodland caribou in Quebec, this work addresses the themes of biodiversity, the loss of natural habitats, and the coexistence of humans and nature. Without presenting the facts in a documentary style, Chantal Davignon offers a visual metaphor that invites the viewer to reflect on the consequences of our choices on ecosystems. Through her contemporary collages, the artist transforms environmental issues into visual narratives imbued with color, gentleness, and questions.
