Unique work, with a Certificate of Authenticity
Created using acrylics, gouache, hand-painted paper, and natural and handcrafted stamps, this contemporary collage explores the impact of invasive species on Quebec’s wetlands. Inspired by the aesthetic of naïve art, the composition depicts a marsh where common reed is gradually invading the landscape. In the foreground, an overturned turtle symbolizes the fragility of an ecosystem that is slowly losing its balance. Inspired by efforts to combat common reed in Quebec’s marshes, this work addresses the themes of biodiversity, conservation, and the protection of natural habitats. Fascinated by the beauty of this plant as it dances in the wind, Chantal Davignon discovered that it poses one of the main threats to many wetlands by preventing native flora and fauna from thriving. Without presenting the facts in a documentary style, the artist transforms this reality into a visual metaphor where apparent beauty conceals a profound ecological imbalance. Through her contemporary collages, Chantal Davignon invites us to take a fresh look at the landscapes around us and the subtle changes that threaten ecosystems. Combining vibrant colors, clean lines, and ecological awareness, this work sparks a dialogue about the preservation of marshes, the richness of wetlands, and the importance of protecting Quebec’s biodiversity.
