The cane

An aged hand, adorned with a simple wedding band, rests and closes around the knob of a cane: the meticulous artistic rendering captures every tendon, every protruding vein, every fold of skin, revealing in this single gesture, holding on, leaning, all the fragility and dignity of old age. All around, white embroidery in the form of stylized roses and scrolls unfolds freely across the linen, like a suspended ornament that does not directly follow the shape of the hand but surrounds it, crowning it from a distance. This contrast between the physical density of the painted hand and the decorative lightness of the thread evokes the gap between the body that wears down and the elegance that remains, between the weight of old age and the grace one continues to carry. La Canne thus explores this point of support, both material and symbolic, upon which old age and its memory rest, sustained by what surrounds it without ever fully enveloping it.
