Butterflies are Free Les papillons sont LIbres

This mixed media collage features an array of butterflies, flowers, and natural motifs layered over a background of vintage papers and handwritten text. The composition is vibrant with soft pinks, purples, and earthy tones, punctuated by teal and yellow accents. The butterflies vary in size and style, some outlined in bright colours, creating a dynamic and whimsical atmosphere. The artwork combines detailed imagery with abstract elements, evoking a sense of nature's delicate beauty and the interconnectedness of life. his mixed media collage is layered with rice paper with nature-themed designs including butterflies, wasps, leaves, rabbits and plants of various types. I cut up pieces of the rice paper and adhered them to the canvas in layers using gloss medium. Along with the rice papers, I also added decorative Japanese papers with Chiyogami florals. Underneath this, there is also some washi papers with acrylics. Some green and pink acrylic paints were added to some of the papers, and I recently added designs using acrylic markers to the top of the collage. The sides of the painting are a light lime green. The idea of the collage is about growth, transformation and freedom.
