Memories of Ash
The series Memories of Ash and Forest Fire are inspired by the artist's experience with wildfires and clear-cutting, as well as archives of a fire that devastated the forests of the state of Washington in the early 20th century. Through an evolution from figuration to abstraction, the works convey the violence of destruction and the emotions it evokes, from terror to desolation, up to the hope of regeneration.
