Paintings by Mona was born in Timmins, Ontario, to French-Canadian parents. She grew up with five siblings, including a twin, and attended the French educational system through grade 13. She later studied nursing in Toronto, Ottawa, and Hamilton, completing her nurse practitioner program. She has been married to Marc, a retired high school teacher, for more than 50 years, and together they have three adult children who work for the federal government in Ottawa.
