War Haul

Part of his War Toys series, featuring works about the war in Ukraine, “War Haul” incorporates a Russian “soup can” grenade in the style of artist Andy Warhol. This piece is a nod to the artist and uses his name as a pun. This artwork presents a striking and surreal image of a Campbell's soup can labeled "Borscht Soup," with the top opened to reveal the barrel of a handgun emerging from within. The painting employs a clean, illustrative style with bold outlines and a limited color palette dominated by red, white, and gray tones. The composition centers the can against a neutral background, emphasizing the contrast between the familiar commercial object and the unexpected weapon. The piece evokes a sense of tension and absurdity, reflecting themes of chaos and dark whimsy.
