The idea for this Still Life first came to me in the autumn of 2007, in the classroom of the Fine Arts School for Children in Ciorescu, Moldova, where I arranged this still life for my students to paint during their painting lessons. While observing this composition and feeling its natural beauty, I was deeply inspired to paint this subject myself alongside the children, creating the first version of the Artwork in the same classroom environment. The first version was exhibited in the summer of 2008 at our Personal Exhibition at Skytower in Chișinău, Moldova, and later at the Exhibition held at the Leogrand Hotel and Convention Center in Chișinău, Moldova in the same year autumn 2008. This smaller-format version painted in 2014, preserves the same expressive strength and conveys the profound warmth of the Earth, the light of autumn, and the richness of the natural gifts it offers. The painterly texture, the contrasts between warm and dark tones, and the rhythm of forms create an atmosphere of tranquility, harmony, and abundance. This Still Life with mushrooms and red maple leaves possesses three important dimensions of value: Artistic value: — through the study of natural forms, textures, light, and the rich autumn color palette, transforming simple elements of nature into an expressive visual composition. Biographical value: — because the idea of this Artwork was born from my experience as a painting Teacher, while creating a natural composition for my students and sharing with them the beauty of observing and representing nature through art. Symbolic value: — through the presence of the red maple leaves, introduced as a symbol of Canada — (the country where this version was painted in 2014). These leaves create a visual and spiritual bridge between the origin of the theme in Moldova and my new stage of artistic life in Canada. The overturned wicker basket suggests the generosity of nature, as if the gifts of the Earth are offered directly to the viewer. The mushrooms become symbols of harvest, memory, tradition, and gratitude for the richness provided by nature. This Still Life represents a composition inspired by the simple yet profound beauty of the Earth’s offerings. The mushrooms arranged around the wicker basket create an autumn atmosphere, evoking the richness of forests, the generosity of nature, and the ancestral connection between human beings and the Earth. This Artwork is an expression of harmony between humanity and nature, between memory and the present, between my Moldovan roots and my Canadian identity. The Painting is framed and available for purchase.
