Vodniciar Alina Artwork «Still Life with Autumn leaves» — 28x38cm watercolor on paper 2014

I painted this Bouquet with Autumn Leaves in 2014, being inspired by the beauty of autumns here in Quebec. I was inspired to express through color the beauty of autumn with its richness of tones – the copper-colored leaves, the yellow apples, and the berries placed on the table. Through the colors and transparency of watercolor, I sought to artistically capture the atmosphere of this wonderful season, with all its shades and emotions. The Artwork is in fact, a still life composed of this vase, the bouquet of leaves, and the fruits on the table. I chose to represent the autumn leaves as a decorative element but also as a symbol of the beauty of Canadian nature, as the maple leaf is one of Canada’s most recognized emblems and symbols. I used contrasts between the warm tones of red, orange, and gold in the leaves and the luminous green of the apples to create a visual harmony characteristic of this season. Through my working technique, I allowed the watercolor to preserve its transparency and the freedom of the color washes, so that the light would appear to pass through the leaves and fruits. Through this composition, I wanted to capture the richness of autumn in Quebec and my feeling of gratitude for the beauty of the landscape where I have been living since 2012. The Artwork painting is not framed, it is simply the painted watercolor sheet of paper.
