The little girl in this Portrait is my granddaughter — her name is Bianca, and she lives in Chicago. Her mother is the daughter of my sister; she sent me a high-quality photograph, and I began working on it in the summer of 2025. I rendered through drawing the structure and texture of the clothing Bianca was wearing. All the elements in this Portrait — the colors of the crown on her head and of her clothing — combine beautifully with the background.While I was drawing the Portrait, I could hear in my mind the joy of her childhood laughter and the songs she sings. It was a pleasure for me to draw this Portrait because it represents a child who is dear to me and whom I know personally.I recreated the entire Portrait from the photograph provided, even though Bianca was younger at that time. I completed the drawing of the Portrait in the summer of 2025, and later, in autumn, in the month of November, Bianca and her mother came to visit us in Montreal and collected the Portrait. Afterwards, in Chicago, they had it framed. When they had it framed, they asked the framing studio for their opinion about this Drawing, and they replied that — this is pure Art.I drew this Portrait while paying particular attention to the luminous expression of Bianca’s face, capturing her natural smile and the joy characteristic of childhood.It is true, I rendered with great precision the fine details of the hair, the texture of the material, and the delicate pattern of the clothing in order to faithfully preserve the original image. When choosing the colors, I sought to create a harmonious balance between the child’s Portrait and the colorful background, so that the cool and warm tones would support each other.I built this composition through successive layers of colored pencils in order to achieve depth, transparency, and a natural sensation of the skin. Through my working experience, I have developed a technique based on the successive application of multiple layers of colored pencil. The colors obtained with colored pencils are built through delicate overlapping layers. I drew the natural shades of the skin, the reflections in the hair, and the variations of the fabric in the clothing. In this particular Portrait, I created a combination of violet, blue, and skin tones, thus achieving this depth and chromatic harmony. I wanted this Drawing to become a special Artwork of our family, so that Bianca would have a visual preservation of her cheerful and delicate personality, and her parents would have a precious memory over time of the age she was at.In the Drawing itself, I paid particular attention to the accurate rendering of volume, anatomical proportions, and the construction of form through tonal transitions, shadows, and the intensity of highlights that modify the colors.This Drawing belongs to the category of Children’s Portraits, which is the 3rd type of Portrait that I draw or paint on commission from photographs in a large format. It may include the drawing of the hands or not, and sometimes even the representation of the child’s entire figure. The price is determined according to the complexity of the proposed subject.
