I painted this Bouquet of Red Poppies this summer on a small-format sheet of paper. This Bouquet of red poppies is a memory of my native landscapes – in the fields surrounding the place where I lived, one could often see such a beautiful sight of wildflowers. These flowers – the Poppies, live for a very short time, but their fiery presence is incredibly inspiring. They are flowers that have been painted thousands of times, each time from a different artistic vision. I, too, chose to paint them in my own manner, using the wet-on-wet technique, in order to capture their freshness and fragility. While painting this Bouquet of Red Poppies, I aimed for the intense red of the flowers to dominate the luminous space of the entire composition. I allowed the watercolor to flow freely, preserving the transparency of the colors and the spontaneous gesture of the brush, so that the poppies would appear almost trembling with life before the viewer’s eyes. The glass vase, the leaves, and the fallen petals complete this atmosphere of ephemerality and naturalness. I chose a broad composition in which the arrangement of the flowers creates a dynamic visual rhythm, while the touches of red strongly contrast with the luminous background. The shades of green and the subtle tones of the vase balance the intensity of the poppies and bring harmony to the entire Artwork. I tried to capture the appearance of the flowers and the emotion of this memory connected to nature and to the place where I lived. Through this watercolor Artwork, I wanted to convey the energy of summer, the fleeting beauty of wildflowers, and the freedom of the painting moment. The Artwork is simply the painted watercolor sheet of paper, it is not framed.
