Red Cloud

Red Cloud carries a sense of strength, resolve, and presence, reflecting the legacy of the Oglala Lakota leader whose resistance, strategy, and leadership made him one of the most formidable Native American figures of the 19th century. The dense cluster of deep navy, red, orange, and white forms feels compressed with energy, as if the composition is gathering itself around a central force that refuses to yield. Sweeping white lines move through the painting like paths, signals, or shifting currents, adding a sense of motion without diminishing the weight of the darker forms. Rather than attempting a literal portrait, the piece channels qualities associated with Red Cloud himself: endurance, intelligence, dignity, and an unwavering sense of purpose. The result feels both forceful and contemplative, honoring a figure whose power came not only from conflict, but from conviction and leadership.
