“Kabuto” reads like a thoughtful deconstruction of armor—less a depiction than an unpacking—where protective form is broken into interlocking planes of color and line. Broad fields of navy, coral, blush, and sky blue press and overlap, while crisp white contours carve through the mass like seams, joints, or the ghosted blueprint of something once whole. The composition suggests structure under pressure: fragments that still hold their weight, yet refuse to lock neatly into place. That tension aligns beautifully with the title’s reference to the kabuto, the Japanese samurai helmet—an object engineered for defense, identity, and ceremony. Here, the “helmet” feels disassembled into its essential parts: shield-like curves, hard-edged facets, and floating components that imply both protection and vulnerability. In turning armor into abstraction, the painting becomes a meditation on what it means to be defended—how strength is assembled, how it can splinter, and how even in fragments it retains a powerful presence.
