Matryoshka

A tongue and cheek poke at Putin's failed attempt to overrun Ukraine, "Matryoshka" is a nesting doll reimagined as a grenade. Outside, an angry Mother Russia. Inside, its real mothers crying for the loss of its sons in this senseless war. Matryoshka is another in the series by Jerre Teague. Support Ukraine and enjoy this print. This painting features two traditional Russian matryoshka dolls set against a patterned olive-green background adorned with dark seed-like shapes. The dolls are vividly colored, with floral motifs and expressive faces; one doll appears joyful while the other shows a distressed expression. A metallic revolver lies beside the dolls, introducing a stark contrast and a sense of tension. The artist employs bold, whimsical brushstrokes and a maximalist style, blending playful imagery with darker, chaotic undertones that invite reflection on conflicting emotions and narratives.
