STORY BEHIND THE WORK *Dérive* speaks to those periods when we no longer follow a clear path, yet something within us continues to move forward. The material seems to be in constant flux. Nothing is fixed; nothing is perfectly contained. Textures intersect, jostle one another, and settle like fragments carried by an inner current. A dark line runs through the work without imposing a clear direction, as if the movement itself were becoming the subject. This work resonates with those moments in life when we lose our usual points of reference. When what once held us in place transforms, we must learn to inhabit uncertainty. It is no longer a matter of controlling every path, but of accepting that certain answers only emerge along the way. The mineral-like hues, the crackles, and the denser areas convey this tension between letting go and resistance. Drifting is not always getting lost. Sometimes it means stepping out of a form of self that is too restrictive to allow a truer, deeper direction to emerge—one less dictated by external forces. “Dérive” evokes this fragile transition where we stop trying to hold on to everything, only to discover that even in instability, something can still guide us.
