Everyone loves someone

This work depicts the desire to possess another person through love, as embodied by two figures whose bond is based on a profound imbalance. The skeletal hand clutching the throat, the one resting directly on the other’s heart, and the gaze directed toward it graphically embody the will to hold the other back, to appropriate their love, and to use it as a remedy for one’s own lack. The disheveled hair, the distorted bodies, and the drips accentuate this hold, which gradually becomes unhealthy, to the point of turning the other into a resource rather than a being to be loved. By contrasting the gaze turned toward the horizon with the one fixed on the other’s heart, the work captures the paradox of a relationship in which the desire to be loved becomes so overwhelming that it ultimately erases the possibility of loving the other in return, to the point where the other is valued solely for the love they provide.
