Anne Thibault, known by the artist name Tibo, was born in Quebec City in 1959 and creates her work in Terrebonne, in the Lanaudière region. During secondary school she discovered painting and classical dance and met the painter Marcel Bellerive. Although she grew up in a modest environment, with her father the family’s sole provider, Tibo always received her parents’ support and encouragement. Her practice is distinguished by a fusion of realism and abstraction. She explores light, shadow, and texture to transform objects and invite reflection. Her work is built around a tension between structure and spontaneity. The creative process begins in an intimate space, often fed by emptiness, feeling, nostalgia, or lived experience. Tibo finds inspiration in paths, roads, and directions, as well as in the quiet beauty of a figure, a couple, or siblings. Her compositions emerge from multiple gestural back-and-forths, alternating marks and erasures, additions and subtractions, scraping, and the layering of media such as acrylic, pastel, and collage. This process oscillates between the construction and deconstruction of images, avoiding the depiction of precise scenes. Instead, Tibo favors compositions open to interpretation, where ambiguity invites viewers to complete the meaning through their own reading. These hints allow the audience to project their own interpretations. Sharing her work here and there on social media and taking part in various art events, Tibo favors acrylic and mixed media. Her contemporary style blends abstract and realist elements, creating luminous, understated works that reveal their depth with each viewing. Her work has been recognized by the City of Terrebonne, which acquired several paintings. Tibo has also received multiple awards at different symposiums and has exhibited several paintings in Toronto and in Shanghai; some have also been featured in specialized magazines. Supported by her family since childhood, she continues to explore and renew her art, inviting each viewer to an intimate, thoughtful experience.
