Régis Souto is a Brazilian-born, Toronto-based painter working in oil and mixed media. His figurative work centres on the body — bodies in transit, bodies that carry the memory of somewhere else, bodies that live with pain and keep moving anyway. Every painting begins with heavily textured gesso: ridges, grooves and drag marks built into the ground before any colour, deciding in advance how light will move across the surface. Layers of coloured pencil, gouache, acrylic and marker follow in whatever order the sensation demands. Oil is always last — the final skin of the work. Trained in class...

Trained in classical painting at Cozinha da Pintura in São Paulo, Souto has exhibited in Toronto at The Show Gallery (Beyond the Contour, solo, 2026), Gallery 1313, and CF Eaton Centre, where his commissioned installation Archive of Unstoppable Bodies was presented as part of Pride Toronto's ARTZONE program. His video work has been supported by the National Arts Council of Brazil and produced for Sony Europe. He is also a published novelist and the illustrator of the 78 arcana of O Tarot dos Chacras. He lives and paints in Toronto.
