Eva Lewarne is a Canadian visual artist — painter and photographer — born in Poland and based in Toronto. She is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art (OCAD). She has had many exhibitions nationally and internationally and, in an extraordinary episode, had work stolen from the Grand Palais in France; according to the Paris police, only her work and Monet’s were taken that year. In 2024 she was featured in the Gold List Artists of 2024 in Art Market International Magazine — and not for the first time. Prolific by nature, she is dedicated primarily to painting women — their many moods, emotions, and presence in the world and beyond. She lives and works alone in a live–work studio, allowing her to keep her studio at home, make frequent touch-ups, and sometimes paint without ever changing out of her pyjamas. The arrangement can also lead her to overpaint older works when canvases aren’t available. She walks in all weather, scanning the landscape and studying people, wondering what makes them tick. A coffee addict, she often ends up in a café on Queen West, often on Ossington. Her art is described as Expressive-Modern-Figurative. Eva paints women as holders of the torch of life, in varied moods and cultural repose. Her series include F-Word, about how feminism is being systematically killed in America; Back To School, about how we are undermining education and preventing children from achieving higher education; We Are nature, about the advent of AI that may erase our desire for life as we morph into a robotic society run by a few billionaires; and Women Speak, concerning the dumbing down and the disinformation age of fake news. She has presented many exhibitions in Europe and New York.
