Antoine Viau-Petit explores painting as a space where gesture, material, and the absurd meet. An emerging artist based in Gatineau, he develops an oil painting practice centered on direct execution, where each gesture remains visible and contributes to the construction of the image. Between portrait, landscape, and still life, his works play with distortion and ambiguity, making the familiar oscillate toward the strange. His approach focuses on how painting can translate inner tensions into a material presence that is both sensitive and expressive. Graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (specialization) from Bishop’s University, Antoine Viau-Petit has presented his work at the 20th and 21st editions of Fresh Paint / New Construction at Art Mûr (Montréal), as well as in the Bishop’s graduating exhibition at Galerie Foreman (Lennoxville) and at the Salon Empreinte d’arts (Melbourne, QC) in 2026.
