Vodniciar Alina Artwork Composition «Canadiens of Montréal» — 75x103cm watercolor on paper 2020

In 2014, my husband received a commission to paint a composition depicting a Hockey locker room dedicated to the Boston Bruins, which he successfully completed. From that moment on, as we learned more about this sport, I became drawn to the intense red and blue colors of the Canadiens de Montréal. I like the combination of cool and warm colors — blue alongside red, as well as the interplay of colors reflected on the ice. I particularly like the Canadiens de Montréal jersey for its expressive character, and for its carefully chosen colors that immediately capture attention. In this painting, I sought to emphasize precisely this chromatic contrast, highlighting the red and blue of the equipment against the white and cool tones of the ice. I painted this Artwork in 2020 in watercolor on paper, using the wet-on-wet technique. My intention was not to render everything in a highly realistic manner, but rather to preserve the freshness and spontaneity of watercolor effects. I allowed the colors to spread and merge freely across the surface of the paper, contributing to the sense of movement and energy within the scene. I focused particularly on the dynamics of the players’ movements and on the elegance of those movements. Through the positioning of the bodies, the direction of movement, and the overlapping figures, the composition is dynamic, guiding the viewer’s eye from one player to another. I painted with a contrast between the fast, fluid watercolor strokes and the defined shapes of the Hockey equipment, enhancing the sense of speed and the immediacy of a moment captured during the game. This is a large-format Artwork. As you can see in the photographs, I mounted it on a white plastic support board for presentation. I painted this Artwork painting just for pleasure, and not with the aim of making a series.
