“Sympathy”

This work emerges from a period of deep reflection on ancestral memory and the unfinished journeys that continue to move through Black American life. The figures are not portraits of individuals but composite spirits-part dancer, part survivor, part witness- both arid and luminous. The tall central figure leads with quiet authority; the smaller ones surge and scatter around her like echoes. On the right, a fractured vessel with upright masts and cross-like spars rises from the same body of forms, neither fully ship in the given environment of the painting.
