The Soul's Gaze

Created as a preparatory study for the Art Battle 2024 live painting competition in Montreal—where the artist qualified for the second round—this work embodies a vibrant fusion of Pop Surrealism and Dark Fantasy. Executed with energetic, textured acrylic brushstrokes, the composition contrasts an electric yellow background with the dark imagery of a skull. An eye floats out of the oral cavity, symbolizing the window to the soul as it escapes and finds its voice. Playing on the adage that the soul resides in the eyes, the work brings to life the spirit expressing itself beyond the flesh and speech. With its saturated candy-colored palette and incisive surrealism, the piece captures a captivating balance between the playful and the macabre.
