Living Roots (2026)

In "Living Roots", the female portrait is rendered in subtle black-and-white, creating a striking contrast against a background and ceremonial headdress rich in bold, vibrant colors. Inspired by Indigenous peoples, the artwork highlights the wealth of their artistic heritage and cultural legacy through the use of abundant, intricate, and deeply expressive patterns. By exploring core principles of design, Charlène B. Larose’s composition skillfully plays with balance, rhythm, and the harmony of shapes and colors. The piece celebrates the beauty, strength, and cultural depth of ancestral motifs in a dynamic dialogue between tradition, modernity, and visual expression. "Living roots" evokes memory, continuity, and the enduring vitality of origins, weaving a profound connection between identity, culture, heritage, and artistic creation.
