The Almost White Wall of Laughter and Forgetfulness

In tribute to the author who influenced the perspective I have developed in observing and understanding human nature. Milan Kundera wrote *The Book of Laughter and Forgetting* as a way to cope with the violence of his deportations and exile. That book accompanied me during a pivotal moment in my life as a woman and a mother—the moment when I chose to continue on my own, and thus to separate. With this work, created just after the pandemic—that universal moment when we were cut off from everything—I wanted to make that choice once more, standing before a blank wall: the choice of laughter and forgetting.
